A quest failed or cannot be restarted

Official behaviorBuild 0.8.10.842 baselineChecked August 22, 2026

Answer first

The current quest engine is designed to let failed quests be replayed with an automatic state reset. Update to the current build, use the quest's available replay flow and let the reset restore quest-owned state. Do not delete a save or manually move files as a first response.

What the official quest engine does

Official The official pre-launch update notes for the new quest engine confirm the following behaviors:

Practical consequences: a quest that "breaks" when the police chase you or an NPC dies is using a documented fail condition, so replaying is the intended recovery — not a corrupted save. For quest-specific stuck points, see roof quest troubleshooting and the Gigi large-egg quest walkthrough.

Before replaying

  1. Confirm the build.Later official notes fixed edge cases where abandoned or failed quests could not restart. Update before judging the replay system.
  2. Record the exact objective.Take a screenshot of the quest name, current objective and any failure message. This separates a recognized failure from an objective that has not advanced.
  3. Use the game's replay action.Allow the automatic state reset to complete. Avoid interrupting it by force-closing the game.
  4. Check quest-owned objects.Confirm that required NPCs, quest vehicles and objective markers returned before repeating the same actions.
  5. Repeat once under recorded conditions. If the same objective fails again, stop and document it rather than trying unrelated save edits.

Vehicle-related quest failures

Official notes say a quest vehicle with an irreparably damaged engine now correctly fails its related quest. That is a deliberate failure state, not the same as losing a personal vehicle. Replay the quest so its state can reset, and use vehicle recovery only for owned personal vehicles.

Selected driving objectives may also offer a skip. When that option appears, the quest vehicle, players, NPCs and animals are transported to the destination. The option is not documented as available for every quest.

Roof construction, furniture placement and Power to the Bench currently remain in the research queue. The site will not publish a guessed sequence until a current-build reproduction identifies the trigger.

Evidence and limits

The automatic reset, replay availability and vehicle-related failure behavior are described in official updates. The safe diagnostic sequence is editorial guidance. The exact position of every replay control and behavior of every quest are not claimed because the available official notes do not document them individually.
