Roof quest stuck? Check the building before the tracker

Quest configuration: 0.8.10.842 · Player and support reports: August 2026

Answer first

Check missing pieces before assuming a tracker bug. Window walls and windows are separate; so are doorway walls and doors. The roof is followed by placing a bed. If the building checks are satisfied but the journal and screen tracker disagree, try these older support workarounds:

  1. Press T and check the quest journal on your phone — the next objective may already be listed there even though the on-screen tracker looks stuck, and you can keep playing.
  2. Sleep to the next day.
  3. Restart the game client (save first, then fully quit and relaunch).

If the real problem is that you cannot find the roof, door or bed blueprints at the workbench, that is a different issue — a scrolling UI quirk — covered in Symptom B below.

Check these 10 building objectives first

Farewell, Nylon Palace! checks more than the roof. Match these steps to your phone journal; placing a blueprint is not the same as finishing construction.

  1. Craft and place a storage chest.
  2. Build at least nine house foundations.
  3. Build at least nine standard exterior wall sections.
  4. Build at least two window-wall sections.
  5. Install two windows, in addition to the window walls.
  6. Build an exterior wall section with a doorway.
  7. Install the door itself.
  8. Build a doorstep.
  9. Complete the roof.
  10. Craft and place a bed.

Window walls and windows have separate checks, as do doorway walls and doors. Check for missing pieces before using the roof-tracker recovery guide.

Symptom A: roof built, quest will not complete (tracker stuck)

Official Corroborated by players

This is the officially confirmed case. Moderator/support Jennoula confirmed in "Tutorial build roof" (Aug 4, 2026) that "there is a known issue with the quest tracker sometimes getting stuck," and gave the workarounds that have worked for almost every player so far:

  1. Press T and see whether your next objective shows up in the phone quest journal. The on-screen tracker may still look stuck, but you can continue the quest anyway.
  2. Sleep to the next day — this sometimes gets the tracker moving again.
  3. Restart the game client.

This support advice dates to August 4, 2026. It does not establish that every current stuck objective has the same cause or that a restart will fix it.

Two independent players corroborate the restart/logout route in "Cant finish Roof quest...?" (Aug 3): X-C0brA-X saved, restarted the game, and the quest showed as finished after the restart; KnottyBoy did the quest steps via the phone journal, then logged totally out and back in, after which the on-screen quest passed.

Symptom B: no roof, door or bed blueprint at the workbench (UI scrolling)

Corroborated by players

Before assuming your game is broken, check how far you scrolled. In "Missing roof" (Aug 2), SUwUMaBUwU pointed out that roofs and beds sit far to the right in the building tab list — scroll slowly with the mouse wheel, because scrolling too far flips you over to the furniture tab. Minay, who had restarted and even started a new save without success, confirmed that scrolling slowly with the mouse wheel revealed the roofs and beds.

A second, independent group reported the same class of problem for door blueprints in "No door plan at workbench" (Aug 4): rllewis3 found that workbench pages can be dragged back and forth with the left mouse button, which revealed plans that seemed missing; jw62157 (the thread author) realized that clicking the arrow keys at the top slides the choices over but often hides some blueprints behind the left panel that keeps opening.

Practical takeaway: use slow mouse-wheel scrolling or left-mouse dragging to page the workbench list, and be careful with the top arrow buttons — they can leave blueprints hidden behind the side panel.

Symptom C: cannot build a door

Single report

One player, Earth Hunter (in "No door plan at workbench", Aug 4), reports that the blueprint list contains two door types — an exterior door and an interior door — and that you also need a wall with a door opening for the door to fit. This is a single community report, not officially confirmed, but it matches the building system's wall-cutout logic and is worth checking before reporting a bug.

Symptom D: hole in the middle of the roof (Roof Cap Lvl 2)

Single report unverified

Several players use Roof Cap Lvl 2 to fill the hole in the middle and then wonder whether that counts. One player, bucfanjoe (in "Cant finish Roof quest...?", Aug 3), reports that their own build moved past the roof step even with a hole in the middle, as long as the exterior edges had a roof tile — but notes being unsure whether Lvl 2 caps count, and adds that having actual doors and windows placed in the wall cutouts may matter. Treat this as a single unverified report: if Symptom A's fixes fail, completing the wall openings and edging the roof is a reasonable next test, not a proven fix.

Troubleshooting flow (our consolidated checklist)

Work through these in order — each step rules out one of the symptoms above:

  1. Can you find the blueprint at all? If no roof/door/bed plan appears at the workbench, fix the UI first: slow mouse-wheel scroll, left-mouse drag, avoid the top arrows hiding plans behind the side panel (Symptom B).
  2. Is the current objective complete? Compare the 10 source-backed building checks. In particular, install the windows and door themselves and place the bed after the roof.
  3. Is the tracker stuck? Building done but the quest will not advance → press T and check the phone quest journal, sleep to the next day, then restart the client (Symptom A, officially confirmed known issue).
  4. Still stuck? Report the build version, current journal objective and building screenshots on the Steam discussion board. Include which checks passed and which recovery steps you tried.

Roof quest FAQ

I built the roof exactly as shown. Why won't the quest complete?

First check the phone journal for missing windows, a door, doorstep or bed. The roof is only one of ten objectives. If the conditions are satisfied but the screen tracker still disagrees, try the older support workarounds recorded above.

There are no roof or bed blueprints in my workbench. Is my save broken?

Probably not. Multiple players "missing" roofs, beds and doors were actually hitting a scrolling UI quirk: the plans sit far right in the building tab, fast scrolling overshoots into the furniture tab, and the top arrow buttons can hide plans behind the left panel. Scroll slowly with the mouse wheel or drag the pages with the left mouse button.

Does a Roof Cap Lvl 2 hole in the middle block the quest?

Unknown. One player reports progressing with a hole in the middle as long as exterior edges had roof tiles, but was unsure whether Lvl 2 caps count — a single unverified report. If the official tracker fixes fail, edging the roof and fitting doors/windows into wall cutouts is a sensible next test.

If your roof quest will not complete after you built the roof, you are not alone — this was one of the most-reported problems on the Steam discussion board in the first week of August 2026, with players posting about it in English, German and Russian, and some getting stuck even earlier at the first step of placing stairs (Tutorial build roof, Aug 4; Whitebear, Aug 2; Campingqueen769, Aug 3).
