Building materials & placement

Learn how to place and finish a blueprint, or jump straight to building-store materials, building-part recipes and the house quest checklist. Building several parts? Combine their materials in one plan.

Blueprint building: place, build and edit

Short answer: Position and rotate the blueprint, confirm placement, then equip the hammer and press the build control until every step is complete. Use the hammer edit control on a built piece for options such as demolish.

  1. Place the blueprint: Move the build cursor to the location you want, adjust its position and rotation, then confirm placement.
  2. Equip the hammer and aim: Equip the hammer and aim at the placed blueprint. With controller controls, hold the selection button while aiming.
  3. Complete every build step: Press the build control repeatedly until all of the blueprint steps are complete.
  4. Edit a built piece: Aim at the completed piece and use the hammer edit control to open options such as demolish. Building and editing consume energy; the number of steps and hammer quality affect energy use and build speed.

Wall material planner

Choose the parts first, multiply each recipe by its batch count, then add the materials together. This worked example uses the recorded game-file recipes.

Change each part count to update the total; enter 0 for parts you do not need. The recipe batch field below does not change this plan.

  • Stone × 8 + Wood Log × 12 Recipe
  • Stone × 2 + Wood Log × 2 Recipe
  • Stone × 2 + Wood Log × 3 Recipe

Total: Stone × 12 + Wood Log × 17

Still to collect: Stone × 12 + Wood Log × 17

This covers only the listed walls, not a complete house: no foundation, roof or separate doors/windows. All three recipes require a workbench and include quest conditions with unverified unlock timing.

  1. Check that these three plans are available in your save and compare their displayed ingredient quantities.
  2. Subtract what you already have, then check the Stone and Wood Log supply routes
  3. Place the blueprints and finish their hammer build steps, then check the quest objectives separately. Having the materials is not the same as completing the quest.

Editor-collected game configuration. Ingredients and workbench requirements come from native records; availability and unlocks depend on your save.

Current official version: 0.8.10.842. Footage: July 30, 2026 Early Access build (launch/video baseline 0.8.10.455); it does not establish current recipes.

Alpha entries use Wood / Rock. These original names are retained; links to present material entries do not establish current recipe validity.

Answer first

Construction is live in Early Access. Start with the resource guide, confirm the blueprint name at the workbench, and record the exact quest text if placement fails. Grid behavior and the piece that satisfies each objective remain unverified for the current build.

Looking for Zirconite or “Zerkonite” for a build? The current source-backed route is the Zirconite answer: buy it from Meriam at City Hall; do not treat mines as available in the reviewed build.

What official material confirms

Official Kickstarter and store material describe a construction system built around freedom: you build your dream house both inside and out, with friends able to feel at home in the structures you design. The same source names more than 200 building items spanning foundations, windows, ceilings and other components.

The game runs on RedPilz Studio's in-house Systemic Engine. Official copy says every prop is interactable and reacts to weather and to classical elements such as water, fire and air. That claim is about behavior, not about placement rules.

Broader ranch construction is also confirmed in the official feature overview: house construction, animal facilities, fences, sprinklers, greenhouses and utility systems are all named as buildable ranch infrastructure.

What is not confirmed: whether placement uses a grid, which specific part satisfies each objective, and how the parts system behaves when an objective fails. None of that is published in the official material we can cite, so this guide keeps it as TBD pending a versioned in-game observation.

Official Accidental demolition refunds half the materials. The pre-EA Ranching v2 update notes state that all crafted buildings give 50% of their resources back when destroyed accidentally — a quality-of-life safety net, not a free redesign: you still lose the other half, so demolish deliberately. This is pre-EA official documentation; the exact refund behavior has not yet been independently rechecked in the current EA build.

Workbench crafting menu (video-observed)

The workbench crafting menu was read on screen in launch-build footage (Games Station, V0.8.10.455) Video-observed at 70:50–71:40. The menu is organized into four tabs: Others / Farming / Shelters / Furniture. Recipes visible on screen:

RecipeMaterialsEvidence
Red Tent for 4Requirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)
Scarecrow / Bob the ScarecrowRequirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)
Basic Sprinkler / Advanced Sprinkler / Green House SprinklerRequirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)
Water WellRequirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)
Concrete foundation / Rocks foundation / Wood foundationRequirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)
Rope · Torch · FlashLight · Small Manual Bomb · Fire extinguisher · WorkbenchRequirements not yet capturedVideo-observed (listing only)

Only the Red Tent recipe was opened on screen, so the material counts for every other row stay unrecorded rather than guessed. The three sprinkler tiers and the Water Well confirm the utility-infrastructure build path named in official copy, and the scarecrow recipes connect to the Feathered Foes quest described in the beginner's guide.

Official Bulk crafting is supported both at workbenches and in the Craft App, per the official community-update notes (pre-EA); recheck against the current EA build.

Can't find windows? Scroll across the workbench

Official moderator answer · August 15, 2026 Open the workbench and scroll horizontally across its blueprint list. The window entry can be recognized by its red blinds. This resolves where to look when the visible first group does not show a window.

The source confirms discovery of the listing only. It does not confirm its unlock timing, quest recognition, or placement behavior. For the source-matched current-build materials, open the Window recipe: 2 Stone and 3 Wood Logs.

Materials: Stone, Wood, Hay, Charcoal and Zirconite

Quick answer: use the resource guide for player-facing routes, then use the materials database for the source and evidence boundary of each material.

Open the source-linked materials database

Parts, objectives and the building loop

Official copy confirms the parts catalogue and the objective-driven tutorial, but not the exact rules connecting them. The practical consequence for a new rancher is simple: do not assume a part counts toward an objective until the current build confirms it.

The official store copy also lists construction among the first-week tutorial topics, so the main quest is the best place to learn what your build actually accepts.

Placement reports that still need a test

These are the reports that make construction worth troubleshooting on the current build. Each is a lead, not a reproduced fact; they stay in the verification queue until a repeatable test confirms the cause.

ReportEvidenceWhat players describeStatus
Roof objective is not recognized Multiple reports Steam discussion reports show players placing several roof variants without the house objective completing. The accepted piece and placement rule are unverified. Open study
Furniture placement is blocked Reported A Steam thread describes furniture placement failing, and a translated house objective asking for a piece not visible at the workbench. Open study
Window pieces do not count as exterior walls Reported A launch-week report says window pieces did not advance a nine-exterior-wall objective. The expected piece types are unconfirmed. Open study
Grid building can cause accidental destruction Reviewer report A media review describes grid-based building-tool inconsistencies that can cause accidental destruction. It is commentary, not a measured reproduction. Needs current-build test

Player wording above is summarized, not copied. If a construction objective refuses to complete, keep the exact quest text and the blueprint names before reporting it.

What to record before placing

If you hit a placement problem, the evidence this site needs is a dated, versioned record of the objective and the exact pieces used.

Two independent current-build records under comparable conditions promote a finding to Corroborated. Until then, a single report is a useful test lead, not a settled fact.

Building FAQ

Can I build my house from scratch?

Official material confirms house construction inside and out with a large parts catalogue. The full building loop and material requirements are verified as a feature, but the exact recipe and unlock rules for every structure need current-build evidence.

Why won't my roof count toward the objective?

The accepted roof piece and placement rule are unverified for the current build. Multiple players report placing several roof variants without the objective completing. Follow the roof open study and submit the exact quest text and blueprint names.

Does building use a grid?

Not officially confirmed. Treat grid behavior as unverified until a current-build test records whether pieces snap to a grid.

Is construction in the launch build?

Yes — building and ranch infrastructure are confirmed systems in Early Access 0.8.10.842, not roadmap features.

Community wording is summarized rather than copied. Reports remain dated and attributed; unsupported fixes are not published as facts. Placement rules are TBD until a versioned in-game observation exists.
