The Ranchers Updates

Official patch notes tell you what changed. This page adds the practical next step: what to re-check in your ranch, which old workarounds should be retired, and what remains an open question.

0.8.10.842: quest validation and ranch stability

Released August 21, this update targets quest progression, animal-to-building links and batch limits.

Answer first

If a quest will not advance, an animal loses its coop or barn association, shows the wrong hunger state after growing, or the linked count looks wrong, update to 0.8.10.842 or later before repeating an older workaround. The same announcement also raises shop purchase and crafting batch limits; it does not confirm every unrelated animal, building or economy report as fixed.

Current status: 0.8.10.842 is the latest official build recorded in the Steam news feed reviewed on August 22, 2026. A symptom that still reproduces after this update should be recorded with the new build number.
Roadmap context

What the roadmap can and cannot tell you

The developer-shared Early Access roadmap is useful historical planning context, not a list of features currently available in 0.8.10.842.

Answer first

Use the current Steam announcements to decide what you can do in-game today. Treat roadmap dates, planned systems and older feature groupings as planned or historical until a later dated announcement or current-build test confirms them.

Safe reading: a roadmap item is not proof of a release date, a current unlock, or a working mechanic. Read the source note and its risk boundary, then return to the available-versus-planned guide.
Previous hotfix context

0.8.10.562 hotfix: update first, then re-check

Released August 10, this earlier hotfix remains useful when comparing the animal, vehicle and incubator paths it named.

Answer first

If an animal disappeared, got stuck in a doorway, vanished after loading, or froze after subway travel, compare the older 0.8.10.562 fix list with the current 0.8.10.842 behavior before applying an old workaround. If the symptom survives both updates, record a fresh reproduction instead of repeating a pre-hotfix report.

Historical status: 0.8.10.562 is retained as the earlier official fix boundary; 0.8.10.842 is the current build.

Do this after updating

A short post-update check

This is a troubleshooting order, not a claim that every player must complete every step.

  1. Confirm the title-screen build. Steam normally updates automatically; check the number when a previously reported symptom remains.
  2. Load a safe save. Before moving animals or vehicles, keep the original save and note the count, location and state you can see.
  3. Repeat the smallest trigger. Test the exact transition that caused the problem: night entry, loading, subway travel, doorway movement or AutoHue entry.
  4. Separate fixed paths from new symptoms. A symptom that differs from the official list should not be labeled as the same bug without evidence.
  5. Send a complete report. Include build, platform, save context, steps, before/after state and a screenshot or clip through the contribution form.

How to use an update entry

Each entry answers three different questions so a patch note does not become a blanket promise about the whole game.

01

What changed?

Start with the official build and the exact systems named in the announcement. Older reports remain historical context when the patch covers their trigger.

02

What should I check?

Follow the smallest current-build test linked from the entry, keeping the original save and recording the before-and-after state.

03

What is still unknown?

Unmentioned systems keep their own evidence status. Use the research queue or community signals for open questions instead of inferring a fix.

What not to overread

Patch notes narrow the question; they do not answer every question

Version boundary: the 0.8.10.842 announcement targets quest validation, ranch links and batch limits. It does not verify exact crop prices, fertilizer calculations, greenhouse unlocking, map coordinates or every building-placement rule. Those topics keep their own evidence status.

That distinction matters for a live Early Access game. A fix for one disappearance path is not confirmation that all missing-animal reports share one cause. Likewise, an official roadmap item is not a current feature. Use the Early Access status guide for the broader available-versus-planned split, and the research queue for claims that still need a current-build test.

Sources and editorial method

We summarize the effect of a source rather than copying its wording. A later build can move an old report to Historical or Obsolete without erasing why it was once useful.

Source scope

Where the supporting material comes from

The site uses official announcements for version changes, public player discussions for leads, and current-build videos for visible routes. Creator Notes records what each source can and cannot prove, so a useful video or wiki reference is not mistaken for a verified number.
